The definition of downsizing is to make (something) smaller.

As it pertains to organizing, downsizing is the act of purging your items most often to move from a larger home to a smaller home. This is common with empty nesters, the tiny house movement, and sometimes even due to the economy.

Purging, or the act of paring down of your items, is often described to be overwhelming, freeing, addictive, and even sometimes described as stressful. Like most “change”, how purging, or paring down, makes you feel depends on where you are in the organizing process. Most people come out of the experience realizing how little material items they actually want or need (which I’ll tell you personally, is not much).
